A multi-year fundraising campaign by Christiansburg Institute Alumni Association, Inc. (CIAA) to put our historic Edgar A. Long Building back in service to the community by February, 7, 2027 for its 100th anniversary. This date is significant for two reasons:
- On February 7, 1926, Carter G. Woodson started Negro History Week which was the precursor of what we now know as Black History or African American Month.
- In 1927, on this same day, ground was broken for the building’s construction.
To kickstart the fund that backs this campaign, the CIAA, Inc. Events Committee held “It’s On & Poppin’” which was a virtual popcorn fundraiser. The association raised approximately $4,200 and created a separate account from CIAA’s general operations funding solely for the maintenance and restoration of our historic property. The campaign's official launch was held on December 9, 2023, during CIAA’s Inaugural Green & Gold Gala and 45th Anniversary celebration.
